Summary

This bill would require the NYC Department of Sanitation (DSNY) to decennially perform a study and report on the recyclability of expanded polystyrene (EPS) single service articles at the South Brooklyn Marine Terminal in an environmentally effective, economically feasible, and safe manner. DSNY would be required to include in such report its recommendations as to whether EPS can be so recycled, legislative actions, and the possible designation of EPS as a DSNY-managed recyclable material. The first such report would be due by January 1, 2027.
