Summary

This bill requires the Department of Correction (DOC) to establish standards and procedures to evaluate jail housing decisions to ensure people in custody are placed in facilities that match their sense of safety and gender identity. If DOC denies a request for gender-aligned housing, the department must provide evidence and supporting documentation and people in custody will have the option to appeal to an review board with a decision rendered within 48 hours. The bill also requires DOC to provide information on the number of people denied placement to an intake facility that most closely aligns with their gender identity.
